WHAT'S HAPPENING

The nature of the business that Globaleather has been requested to perform has been interesting and enjoyable. It is encouraging to see the increasing number of companies, organizations and individuals who are genuinly concerned about the welfare of the planet and of those people working in the Leather trade in developing countries.

A prime concern and a serious challenge is that the leather used must originate from animals that have been reared, transported and slaughtered humanely for genuine production of food. This is such an important area in India and is something that we feel strongly about. Leather is such an important material for the continued development of many countries that are unfortunate enough not to have the financial security of most developed nations. The standard that we are setting will, hopefully, influence much needed changes.

One of the largest growth areas is in Mobile Telephone Accessories. The majority of the large companies in the 'phone business are not a very caring lot. There are even some who market plastic accessories as genuine leather. Cheap materials, sweat shops and under age workers seem to be the desired direction for many companies. It breaks my heart to see major retail organizations selling products for $20+ to unsuspecting customers (sometimes more if it has a well known a brand name) that often cost less than $2.00 at source. Is this progress or greed? Here in the UK most of the major retailers of mobile phone accessories are guilty of greed and exploitation. There are some who have contacted us to source products that are produced sympathetically and found that the small initial increase in the cost of the product is not a problem as their customers willingly pay a premium for ethically produced goods. We even supply some goods with the Globaleather mark of approval which is now setting the standard internationally. The telephone organizer that appears in the Globaleather product range may appear expensive but the design offers additional usage and is manufactured to our standard.

It is planned for Globaleather to open purpose built workshops / production units in South America, Africa, India and Mongolia during the next few years. We are interested in working with any organizations or individuals who are interested in being involved in this. Please contact Trevor Palmer who would happily discuss developments.

New product lines that are nearing readiness include dog leads and collars and specialist dog footwear. These will be marketed under the trade name "Wet Walkers".

Recent volume business that has been generated by Globaleather because of our trading ethics are a positive sign that major retail organisations are taking notice of the demands of the modern consumer. We are also working closely with a variety of organisations which require our experience.

This photograph was taken last year. It is planned to put a photographic library of the various maufacturing activities together so that you can fully appreciate the nature of the work that we do.

The response that we have recieved from assorted sources as to developments, worldwide, in this industry indicate a growing awareness. Please E-mail Globaleather at: tpglobe@lineone.net if you have any comments.
